Trinity Alps Wilderness Destinations

Grizzly Lake: If you have the opportunity to visit the Trinity Alps and only time to explore one lake, we highly recommend Grizzly Lake. A large alpine lake that rests below the tallest peak in the Trinity Alps, Thompson Peak. After a moderate hike, you’ll find no better campsite anywhere than Grizzly Meadows. We’ll take a night to rest before the challenging scramble to Grizzly Lake, but the effort is worthwhile. As you pause on a granite boulder going up the scramble, the awe-inspiring Grizzly Falls is never out of view. You’re almost there – the perfectly clear waters of Grizzly Lake await.

Caribou Lakes: Embarking on the demanding hike to Caribou Lake takes you on a scenic journey past Snowslide and Lower Caribou Lakes. At the trail’s end, the breathtakingly large alpine beauty, Upper Caribou Lake, rewards the intrepid traveler.

Granite Lake: After a moderate hike through Granite Canyon, you are welcomed by the towering rock formations that stand guard over Granite Lake. Venture beyond, toward Seven Up Peak, and then descend into the vast, Bear Basin. Here, you have the opportunity to embark on an expansive loop where each step presents a vista yet unseen.

Boulder Lakes Loop Enhanced: This adventure offers an array of experiences for the eager packer. Begin with a leisurely trek to the brook trout filled waters of East Boulder Lake. Continuing beyond you’ll pass the Upper Boulder Lakes, eventually ascending the mountains divide and joining the famed Pacific Crest Trail for a stint. Then, veer off to discover the secluded Middle Boulder Lake, completing your circuit with a return to East Boulder Lake.

Customized Adventures: Our selection of curated excursions only begins to scratch the surface of the immense 500,000+ acre Trinity Alps Wilderness. We could not possibly list every worthy destination. Having journeyed through expansive tracts of the Trinity Alps – we are well-equipped to craft a tailored llama packing adventure that aligns seamlessly with your group’s unique desires and skill levels.
