Russian Wilderness Destinations

Little and Big Duck Lakes: This hike takes you through the a portion of the botanical wonder known as the Miracle Mile—a region boasting the world’s highest concentration of coniferous trees within a single square mile. The vibrant biodiversity here extends below the trees with awesome displays of wildflowers. Your adventure includes restful evenings at Little and Big Duck Lakes, where you can peer out of the tent at glacially sculpted cirques. For those looking to broaden their exploration, nearby Horseshoe Lake and Eaton Lakes offer a myriad of options for the ambitious explorer.

Sugar Lake: A tour of the Miracle Mile wouldn’t be complete without exploring the Sugar Creek watershed. A botanist’s playground, you’ll be able to comfortably stay at Sugar Lake and foray out during the day to the rocky ridges surrounding the lake in search of intact plant assemblages. This also gains you access to Russian Peak for the ambitious summit seeker.

Bingham Lake: You’ll find yourself just far enough away to experience the solitude of the wilderness, yet still within a days hike from the trailhead. Bingham Lake can be completed in a day for those who don’t have enough time to explore more distant destinations. We’ll bring the llamas and set up a picnic along the shores of Bingham Lake for the day. Throw a line in the water or take a dip in the lake, the choice is yours. Guides will arrange a buffet of local meats and cheeses as an appetizer while we prepare your choice from our lunch menu options. With long summer days, there’ll be just enough time to explore before turning in for the evening on the trail back down toward Scott Valley.

Customized Adventures: The Russian Wilderness has countless nooks and crannies to explore, the curated options presented here are just a glimpse. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to craft a custom trip of practically any duration and distance, tailored to your groups preference.
