Marble Mountains Wilderness Destinations
Paradise Lake and Kings Castle: After a moderate hike through dense forest, the majestic Kings Castle comes into view, signaling your proximity to Paradise Lake. Set up camp for the night allowing you to recharge for the adventures that await the next day. Choose from invigorating day hikes, whether it’s peaking Kings Castle or exploring the scenic routes leading to Bear or Turk Lake. Paradise Lake serves as your stunning base to explore the heart of the Marble Mountains Wilderness.
Black Marble, Marble Mountain, Sky High Lakes, and Shadow Lake: Traversing upward through the Canyon Creek drainage we’ll take a right toward the Marble Valley Guard Station. We’ll rest for the evening before following North on the Pacific Crest Trail to the nearest point of access to Black Marble Mountain, here we’ll leave the llamas and scramble up the summit. Back down and around we’ll connect with the Marble Rim Trail – again departing from the llamas we’ll ascend to the top of Marble Mountain. Retracing our steps a short way we’ll diverge through Little Marble Valley. Our journey continues past Gate Lake, granting respite at Upper Sky High, Lower Sky High, and Frying Pan Lakes. Eventually, we’ll rejoin the Pacific Crest Trail, meander past Shadow Lake before ultimately navigating the Red Rock Trail for our return journey. Rarely stepping foot on the same path twice, we’ll explore some of the Marble Mountains’ most iconic peaks and lakes.
Cliff Lake and Campbell Lake to Summit Lake and Log Lake: This is a long loop through moderate terrain with rewards of numerous lakes. The first destination is Campbell Lake, followed by the iconic Cliff Lake. As the loop unfolds, take a moment to cast a line into the inviting waters of Summit Lake. We’ll rest there before the departing stretch down the valley past Log Lake.
Ukonom, Cuddihy, Secret and One-Mile Lakes: Throughout nearly the entire journey, you’ll find yourself surrounded by breathtaking vistas. Enjoy glimpses of Monument Lake and Meteor Lake on the way to the first destination, Cuddihy Lakes. Continuing north along the sculpted ridge, we’ll reach the largest water body in the Marble Mountains – Ukonom Lake. Take a well-deserved break or take a day trip to Snyder or Tickner Lakes. As we loop around on an alternate trail, we’ll stay at One-Mile Lake. From there, you can explore the out-and-back trail to Secret Lake before retracing the trail back down to the trailhead. This immersive journey promises to not disappoint with the chance to discover some of the Marble Mountains’ most captivating lakes.
Customized Adventures: There are dozens of destinations in the Marble Mountains worthy of even the most discerning backpacker. It would be impossible to list all possible combinations. We have explored countless miles of the Marble Mountains.
