Siskiyou Wilderness Destinations
Devil’s Punchbowl: Named for the nearly perfectly bowl shaped cirque that surrounds the lake. The first stop on the journey won’t be long as we set up for the night at Buck Lake to prepare for much the longer trek to the Devil’s Punchbowl. You’ll know you’re close when you pass a smaller lake on the right, and see Bear Mountain, which towers above the Punchbowl, grows closer. After a couple days exploring the area we’ll load up the llamas for the return.
Raspberry Lake/Preston Peak: This hike begins quite high in elevation, rising up a small divide before descending on the opposite side of the trailhead, gradually losing elevation. We’ll camp for the night at Young’s Valley, nestled in a beautiful meadow. As the trail continues, it steadily gains elevation before reaching Raspberry Lake. From there, we’ll set up at Raspberry Lake as our base for the out-and-back summit of Preston Peak, the tallest mountain in the Siskiyou Wilderness. Returning back the way we came on the undulating route toward the trailhead.
