Wilderness Destinations

Trinity Alps Wilderness:

Nestled in a remote reach of Northern California lies the Trinity Alps Wilderness, a vast expanse that remains undiscovered by many. As the state’s second-largest wilderness area, spanning over 500,000 acres, it forms a mosaic of rugged peaks, alpine lakes, and lush forests. Granite marvels like Sawtooth Peak and Thompson Peak dominate the landscape, enticing adventurers seekers to ascend for unparalleled panoramic views. Below the jagged ridges is the ice cold waters of dozens of lakes, including Grizzly and Granite Lakes, mirroring the cirques above them. Trails wind through meadows adorned with forbs and flowers, alongside trout streams shaded by old-growth conifers.

The Trinity Alps’ ruggedness is hard to fathom on a map and becomes even more pronounced on foot with a full backpack. You may question if this is the same California that hosts the famous Venice Beach. However, our llamas make navigating this challenging landscape and accessing the far reaches of the wilderness not only easier but also highly enjoyable.

Marble Mountains Wilderness:

Truly a backpacker’s dream full of breathtaking vistas, gin-clear lakes, and expansive meadows, offering endless opportunities for solitude. Reaching the finest destinations often requires a strenuous trek with a heavy pack. Enter our llamas – transforming top destinations like Marble Rim, Black Marble Mountain, Paradise, Cuddihy, and Ukonom Lakes into accessible sanctuaries with the aid of our trusty, woolly companions.

Russian Wilderness:

While smaller compared to adjacent expansive wilderness areas, the Russian Wilderness compensates with its concentration of awe-inspiring sheer cliffs, earning its place as a jewel within the Klamath Mountains. Renowned for its rich botanical diversity, the wilderness boasts the famed “Miracle Mile,” showcasing 18 distinct conifer species in just one square mile. Explore popular destinations like Little and Big Duck Lake and Sugar Lake in a new and unique way – with the assistance of llamas. Whether you’re a botanist, peak-bagger, or fisherman, the Russian Wilderness promises an exceptional experience in this special part of the world.

Siskiyou Wilderness:

If there were a red-headed stepchild among California’s wilderness areas, the Siskiyou Wilderness would undoubtedly claim the title. The light usage of this hidden gem can be attributed to its distance from significant population centers, often requiring travelers to pass through more prominent and well-known wilderness areas to reach its secluded beauty. Despite being overlooked, the Siskiyou Wilderness boasts exceptional hikes such as the challenging Devil’s Punchbowl and Raspberry Lake, or more relaxed destinations like Kelly Lake. Renowned as the headwaters of the emerald-green Smith River, this wilderness area also feeds the waters of Blue Creek known as a salmon and steelhead stronghold.
